Description: Ibeji is the protective Orisha of twins. The name derives from "IBI" - first born & "EJI" - two. The Yoruba consider twins to be good luck. They believe they share one soul between them. If one of them dies, the statues are made to become the abode of the departed. Through the intermediary of the ibeji statuette, the Yoruba mother of a deceased twin could maintain a bond with her child.
